Ivo Herzig, engineering, interaction, software, research and all things digital from Zurich.
I am a software developer and engineer, with a special interest in engineering and scientific applications and building interactive experiences. If this is something you’re interested in or need: I work as a freelancer, and I’m always interested in new projects.
Data Science, AI and Technical Software
I have extensive experience in data science, machine learning and AI. As a research associate at ZHAW, I work on medical image processing and tomographic reconstruction using deep learning for radiation therapy of cancer. Previously, I worked on automatic quality analysis and built an integrated fluorescence spectrometer to classify the quality of olive oils.
While I enjoy Machine Learning & AI, I have a soft spot in for traditional algorithms and software engineering. At SoftART, I developed desktop software for the parametric design of hydropower turbines and industrial compressors, including computational geometry, UI design, 3D visualization, and CAD automation.
Machines and Embedded
Robots are cool. After my degree in mechatronic systems engineering, I was part of the original founders team of an early-stage startup in soft material robotics (now Solskin), where I built electronic and pneumatic control systems and worked on prototyping soft-material actuators. In addition to engineering, I was also active in business development, proposal writing and pitching to funding agencies and the public.
Arts and Culture
As an artist, I build interactive and robotic pieces and installations, create procedural visuals and 3d animation and explore how people interact with algorithms in a physical way. See some of my work. I’m a fan Open-Source Software and DIY culture, and I’m an active member of the Bitwäscherei Hackspace and Swiss Mechatronics Art Society SGMK.
